Introduction to Promo

In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of promo performance, including timing, pacing, storytelling, with script interpretation in a variety of promo styles commonly heard across television, cable, and streaming platforms. Joe loves the excitement of the fast pace of being the voice representing amazing shows. It's a remarkable, rewarding feeling, and he wants you to have that same feeling too!

About Joe

Joe's best known as the comedy promo voice of the Fox Television Network and CBS Network for over 25 years. While working at CBS and Fox, the NBC Television Network brought Joe on-board in an effort to utilize his voice in re-branding their celebrated dramas. He’s been the live announcer multiple times for the Grammy Awards, The Primetime Emmy Awards and many more of television’s biggest events. Joe is the in-show voice for America’s Got Talent, Hollywood Game Night, Deal or No Deal and the lead promo voice on several cable outlets in the US. He is the image voice of radio stations all over America and Canada, and appeared in the 2013 film, In A World, written, directed, and starring Lake Bell.

He is the recipient of the Don LaFontaine Legacy Award for his “character, longevity, talent, professionalism and the passion for giving back," and the co-founder of the Don LaFontaine Voice Over Lab at the SAG/AFTRA Foundation in Hollywood.

Joe is also an author, having contributed to several books on the art of voiceover. He and his wife, Ann co-wrote his memoir, “Living On Air – Adventures in Broadcasting” a funny and charming coming of age story about a small-town boy who grew up on the air.
